On June 5,2012, Mao Sumei, the deputy director of Yilian, was invited to speak in the seminar sponsored by CBYA(China-Britain Youth Association). The topic of the seminar is : Ins and Outs of Working for an NGO in China Today.
The seminar was held at 19:30 in the Bookworm, featuring Dorit Dehrack (Senior International Advisor for the Chinese Foundation Center, and recipient of China Friendship Award from Prime Minister Wen JiaBao), Mao Sumei (Deputy Director of the Beijing Yilian Legal Aid and Study Center of Labor) and Irene Shao (Director of BEAM: Bridging Education And Mobility). Irene Shao introduced the history of BEAM as well as the projects that were being carried out. Mao Sumei gave a brief introduction of Yilian and talked about the experience in the development of the organization. Also, she gave her idea on youth and civil society in China. Dorit Dehrack talked about the work of Chinese Foundation Center and her opinion on doing NGOs’ work in China. Afterwards, there was time for audience to ask questions. The seminar participants discussed the problems they concerned about in the development of NGO in China.
