Construction workers are one of the most important parts of China’s urban life. With the development of our society, the number of female construction workers is rapidly increasing. Since construction industry has its particularity, female workers’ labor rights are worth of more attention and protection.

To raise women workers’ legal awareness, on March 17^th and 18^th, the Beijing Yilian Legal Aid and Study Center of Labor had organized a training program regarding job security for women workers at Sanluju construction site and Wanda Plaza construction site, both sites cooperated with China Construction Second Engineer Bureau. This training program had been strongly supported by the management team of the construction company.



In order to let workers be familiar with basic labor rights and relevant legal knowledge, Yilian had invited an experienced lawyer who is specialized in labor law, Yingying Zhang, to introduce labor rights and the way to protect them among women workers. Attendees not only carefully listened to the lecture, but also get engaged via questions based upon their own experience in labor market, and Yingying Zhang’s feedback had led to further discussion and interaction. This training program had brought participants a series of relevant information, like, gender discrimination is not allowed, the forbidden type of job women workers should not get involved during certain periods (pregnancy, confinement, and nursing), and corresponding approaches to protect their rights. 

Through this on-site training, female construction workers’ legal knowledge and awareness has been increased. Moreover, they came to know the union and the public are caring them. One thing we are sure about is, under the protection of the law regulations, they will make bigger contribution to city construction and social harmony.
