Since November 2016, staff and volunteers of Beijing Yilian Legal Aid and Research Center of Labor (hereinafter referred to as Yilian) organized labor law publicity events for three times around Majuqiao labor marke and Liuliqiao Passenger station. In spite of the freezing weather, staff and volunteers distributed well-designed labor law handbooks and provided labor law advocacy service for immigrant workers on the evening of November 3rd, 4th and 23rd. Handbags with Yilian logo were also distributed. Mr. Shichun Han, lawyer and deputy director of Yilian, who took part in the event on November 3rd, answered workers’ questions concerning labor law in great patience by referring to his legal aid experience for years. Over 500 labor law advocacy materials were distributed in three events and over ten workers also joined the volunteer team.
Yilian’s new handbags gathered lots of attention in the two areas, where many of immigrant workers are populated, among whom there were construction workers, food delivery workers, couriers, shop assistants and individual households. Some food delivery workers requested labor law handbooks from the staff and browsed the details on their electric motorcycles. They expressed that the handbooks were of great help for them.
During the events, the staff exhorted the workers to call Yilian’s hotline 010-82357827 or go to Yilian’s legal aid site to seek for help concerning labor law from experienced lawyers.
Worker-volunteers, who were also a part of Yilian-ers , acted as a special role in the events. Their participation and support helped Yilian’s handbooks meet the need of workers better and enhance the scope of publicity. As the saying goes, roses given, fragrance in had, the worker-volunteers also strengthened their own legal awareness in the events. It is also wish of Yilian that more and more workers will participate in the events as volunteers to make labor law as a guardian for more and more workers.
