Since December 2016, the legal aid team and program team from Beijing Yilian Legal Aid and Research Center of Labor carried out 4 labor law promoting events. Despite the cold weather, the staff brought comic labor law handbooks to crowded coach station on the afternoon of December 9th, 13th, 23rd and 30th. Over 500 handbooks were dispatched in four events, On December 23rd, Yilian also invited volunteers from Beihang University to join the event.
As lunar new year is approaching, the flow of people around the coach station is rising as well. The volunteers and staff distributed easy-understanding material and told passers-by not to hesitate to call Yilian’s hotline if they confronted relative problems. By doing these, Yilian’s weekly promoting events could help an immigrant worker family enjoy a good holiday with only a couple of minutes.
The staff of Yilian also passed on the methods and skills of promoting to new student volunteers. Staff found that although the student showed passion to public interest events, they have divergence and even confusion towards the form and achievements of the events. In accordance with the above topic, staff discussed and shared the team’s stories during the past ten years with the volunteer. By practicing and deliberating as well, volunteers had a deeper understand of public interest service.
Materials, taken home by the labors, helped them raise their legal awareness imperceptibly. When they get frustrated since their rights are infringed, they will pick up the handbook and call Yilian’s hotline.
